Let the Children Come

The children -- grades K-5 -- have come!

As of fall 2018, we are a K-12 school on one site after being in separate locations since 2005. Anticipation is high as we renovate a building next to our middle and high school to be a permanent home for our elementary program.

Thank you to the dozens of donors who have made gifts and pledges totaling around $3.68 million!

As of March 12, 2019, we are within $23,000 of our move-in goal!

Building progress update as of March 11, 2019

(progress reports come weekly to staff by Mike Stoltzfus, director of business affairs)

  • Many window openings have been enlarged to accommodate new windows.  Classrooms will  have lots of natural light.
  • The first floor is entirely framed in and the second floor is almost done. Exterior framing should be finished the week of March 11.
  • Holes cut in the lower level floor have been filled in with concrete, finishing the structural reinforcement of the shell of the original building.
  • Trumbo Electric, Blauch Brothers (mechanical and plumbing), and Liberty (sprinkler) are working together and being creative to keep the ceilings as high as possible to give the classrooms a large, open feel.
  • Site work has been done, including tree removal and preparing for the office and eventual gathering space on the west side of the building.
  • New signage along Virginia Ave!
  • If the weather cooperates, Partners Excavating will begin digging footers for the office addition and north stair tower next week.

When this project is complete, we will seek additional funding to complete the next phase of the project:

  • Build a Bridge. This outdoor learning space will connect the two school sites and ensure smooth drop off and pick up.
  • The Gathering Space. This facility will be a place where community building happens every day, much like the family room in one’s home.
  • Parking lot upgrades.

And look for new information on a solarized roof for the upper level high school soon!
